Houston Texans sign free agent safety Stevie Brown to a one year contract

Former New York Giants safety Stevie Brown, 27, who became a free agent at the end of the 2014 football season on Wednesday has signed a one year contract with the Houston Texans.
The financial details of Brown's contract were not released to the public by the Texans.
Brown was a seventh round draft choice of the Oakland Raiders in the 2010 National Football League out of the University of Michigan where he played four seasons with the Wolverines football team from 2006-2009.
Brown played one season for the Raiders before he was released before the start of the 2011 football season.
Brown was claimed off the waiver wire by the Carolina Panthers on September 4, 2011 but was released three days later.
The Indianapolis Colts claimed Brown off the waiver wire 13 days later. Brown played one season with the Colts before he joined the New York Giants as a free agent before the start of the 2012 football season.
Brown did not play football for the entire 2013 football season due to a torn ACL in his left knee during a preseason game versus the New York Jets.
Brown had signed a one year contract to remain with the Giants prior to the 2014 football season. Brown would have remained with the Giants had he accepted a cut in his salary before the start of the 2015 football season but Brown decided to test the free agent market.
Brown visited the Indianapolis Colts and the Houston Texans after the free agency period began in March to seek employment with another football team before he decided to play football in the National Football League for his fifth season with the Texans.
Brown is a run stopping specialist safety that could be the missing piece of the puzzle during the 2015 football season to improve the chances of the Texans improve on their 2014 football record of 9-7 which placed them in second place in the American Football Conference South Division but they did not qualify to make the playoffs.
