Scientists explain why the absence of life on Mars

Scientists at Oxford to significant discovery about the cause of the absence of life on Mars, despite the presence of water in the CRUST of the planet surface.

It offers new research, led by the Department of Earth Sciences at the university, an insight into the minor changes in the conditions of the planet, which refers to the possibility of the existence of life.

The red planet is covered with water since about 3 billion years, the earth. But the Mars environment has become barren and dry.

Scientists have long thought into what happened to the water on Mars, where previous research indicated that some of the water on the planet has absorbed in space, after the collapse of the magnetic field.

However, a new study led by researchers at the University of Oxford, indicating that the water still exists within the surface of the planet, the earth's crust because of chemical reactions with the rocky crust.

Dr. John Wade, who leads the study, published in the journal "Nature": "On the surface of Mars, water interacted with the newly created components which constitute the crust of basalt, which led to the occurrence of an impact similar to that of the trimmed foam. This contributed to the water-rock interaction in the change of rocks and minerals as well as the drying up of the planet to become unfit for life".

Scientists found that the rocks on the surface of Mars were able to keep about 25% of water, more than those on earth, and that these rock movements of water to the inside of the planet.

Previous studies have found an unusual structure, to indicate the likelihood of the presence of the organisms lived on the surface of the planet, perhaps the hot springs.

Professor Jim E. Mclaughin has proceeded, a researcher at the University of Durham, who search for possible sources of water on Mars, but it did not participate in the study, that while that Mars has no water and land, but it is not completely dry.

He said E. Mclaughin has proceeded to the rocks on Mars can absorb water, but also likely (without the occurrence of this phenomenon) that the planet is still free of the oceans, because of the various weather conditions and features of the planet.

However, Dr. Wade, said that it was important to explore the role of the chemistry of the rocks in the conservation of water and changing the environment on other planets. He added: "We Build on this work and other effects of the planets and the JUNKS, for example, we know little about the planet Venus."

It can be chemical changes in the composition of the small planet, the impact on its ability to attract the life.
