What's up with SiriusXM? The next generation of Satellite radio is coming!

Satellite Radio 2.0

Satellite Radio 2.0 is a term used by SiriusXM to refer to the second-generation satellite radio and service. Yes, there will be such things as 2.0 service and 2.0 radios.

2.0 Service
There will be 20 new channels added to the SiriusXM line-up. These include 12 Spanish channels.

7 New Music Channels
Party Mega Mix (Ch 300) – up-tempo tunes
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Radio (Ch 310) – Rock & Roll
RockBar (Ch 313) – party-style rock
SiriusXM Comes Alive! (Ch 316) – live classic rock
Classic College Radio (Ch 319) – alternative rock
Red White & Booze (Ch 350) – country/honky tonk
Yoga (Ch 360) - chants, grooves and meditative rhythms

4 Additional Sports and Comedy
SportsCenter (Ch 370) - ESPN
Carlin’s Corner (Ch 400) – albums, concerts and archives of George Carlin
Dirty Dog (Ch 403) - comedy
UCB Radio (Ch 406) - comedy from Upright Citizens Brigade

New Spanish Music Channels
La Mezcla (Ch 503) – Top Hits
Flow Nación (Ch 506) – reggaeton, hiphop, rap
Aguila (Ch 510) – regional Mexican music
Latidos Ch 520) – modern love ballads
Caricia (Ch 523) – classic pop
Luna (Ch 530) – lain jazz
Rumbón (Ch 533) – classic salsa

2.0 Radios
To be able to get these extra channels, you need to have a compatible unit. The first compatible radio is the SiriusXM EDGE which comes with a car kit. This is compatible with a home docking and sound system accessories which are sold separately. The MSRP for EDGE is $139.99.
The second radio capable of 2.0 service is the SiriusXM LYNX which leaked in Best Buy last month but was recently announced officially. It will be an Android-based satellite receiver and was said to have touchscreen, Bluetooth and WIFI capabilities. The MSRP is $249.99.

Price Increase
SiriusXM subscribers are now receiving notifications regarding the price increase that will take effect on January 1, 2012. The base price will increase from $12.95 to $14.49 per month which is $1.54 difference. Other price increases will be $1.00 and $0.51 per month for multi-radio satellite services and internet radio respectively. The customers are now in question if the Satellite Radio 2.0 justifies the price hike.
