A look at the love hate relationship that the majority of people today have with technology

Technological Advancements

There is no denying that with every passing day our world becomes more and more dependant upon technology. While many of the latest technological advancements have enhanced and enrichened our lives, there is also a dark side that causes some to want to be "connected" 24/7. With each passing year, the technology gets more advanced. With each new program or hardware, promising to be faster, more efficient, and more compact. Whether we like it or not, the world is moving in a direction where, at some point, we are all going to be forced to join in the technological race.

The Darkside of Technology

Even though technology has greatly improved the lives of many. Allowing the deaf to hear, the blind to see, the limbless to walk. It has also turned a generation of teenagers into mindless zombies. While it is the parents's responsibility to censor and monitor their children's behavior, the gaming industry still targets the youth by providing them with inappropriate images of violence, sex, and alcohl. Not only do they fill their games, music, images, etc with these vices, they glorify these negative images to such an extent that today's youth no longer react to seeing their best friend shot down. It's just another day for them.

How Technology Can Help

However, technology is not all gloom and doom. Yes, there are certain aspects that need to be changed. The good far outweighs the bad.

Just ask the Los Angeles couple who were married via skype. The California couple, Samuel Kim and Helen Oh, had been planning their nuptials for months when Kim suddenly became ill. Not wanting to disappoint their guests, some of whom had come all the way from Korea just to share this glorious day with the happy couple, they decided to employ the help of social media, Skype. By taking advantage of this useful technology, they were able to say their vows with their family and friends present.

Good Outweighs the Bad

As Newton said, "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction", the same applies to good and bad. Wherever there is good, bad will also exist. Technology is no exception. It is up to us the consumer to ensure that we use technology to our benefit and not to our detriment. Technology is only as good as the one using it.

I couldn't agree more--it's how people apply technology that determines whether it is good or bad.

I agree too. Technology can be really good and bad at the same time. People used to remember information like friends addresses and phone numbers, now they can store them in their 'Blackberry' or 'iPhone' much to the detriment of their brains.

This is an excellent article. I hadn't heard of the couple being married via skype!! Really unusual. As Jerry says, it's how technology is applied that counts.
Excellent article :D

Thanks everyone for your support. Unfortunately the majority of people tend to use technology in "bad" ways more than the good ones.
