When you think of getting an affordable car, think of a 3D printed car.

The New 3D Printed Car

This is great news to lovers of good cars, a new fleet of 3-D printed cars is about to be unleashed but don’t expect to see a mass produced car this soon. In future this would be an affordable car for many that would want to have there own private cars.

Though, the technology is not a new one because most automakers have been using 3-D printing in the prototyping phase for years. An example is Toyota; they have been using 3-D printing for rapid prototyping.

The 3-D printed car is made from ABS plastic that is been reinforced with carbon fiber.
3-D printed cars are built from extruded plastic like the ones Lego bricks are made of.
With this a 3-D printed car would be cheaper in future than any conventional car.
3-D metal printing holds much promise when it comes to fundamental change in chassis and structure.

For industrial manufacturing, the most cost-time and labour-intensive stages of the product development process is the production of the tools.
For a low cost volume application, industrial 3D printing can eliminate the need for tool production and also reduce cost of labour, cost and all associated by it.

In the production of 3-D printed car there is a reduction in the number of parts required to build a vehicle, low cost and streamlined production. In addition, vehicle parts can actually be altered without a wait for supply of new parts to be machined.

An example of 3-D printed car is the Strati; it’s a roofless electric vehicle and has two sleek seats weighing about 2200 pounds with all non printed parts attached.

Most of the chassis component, of the Strati is complete when it is printed out and that is an advantageous part of the 3-D printed car.

The car can be driven off immediately the shocks, tires, steering wheels, electric motor are quickly installed.

The Strati can travel 120 miles and at a speed of 40 miles per hour.

Local Motors has scheduled to the car to be priced between the range of $18,000 and $30,000.
