But as I often say, terrorists won't check our party registration before they blow us up. - Jane Harman

The Federal Voter Registration System

Jesse J. Holland and Jacques Billeaud reports for the Associated Press: The Supreme Court must wrangle with the legality of states laws enacted to discourage voter fraud on every front. As Americans, have we become completely devoid of common sense? First of all, the term citizen is defined as a legally recognized subject or national of a state or commonwealth, either native or naturalized. What is so outrageous about states putting safeguards in place to assure that criteria is met? One should be mandated to show proof of citizenship to be permitted to use the federal voter registration system.

Of course, it is politically expedient to water down our laws to accommodate some politicians' agenda. Some justices are divided on whether Arizona and other states have the authority to require people to document their citizenship when Congress didn't require it in ordering states to accept and use the "Motor Voter" registration card. This is probably a situation where the existing law needs to be strengthened and not undermine it for the benefit of a specific party.

If one is permitted to be candid regarding this, the fog surrounding voter registration will dissipate. What is the percentage of illegal immigrants that support the republican agenda? Now, you are able to see what a court victory would do to advance the causes of liberalism. But lawyer Patricia Millett, representing those challenging the law, answered that courts accept sworn statements as proof in criminal cases, some of which end in executions. "It's a very serious oath," she said. She further asserted that Congress decided that a sworn statement with the risk of perjury was sufficient to register to vote in the federal system. It is time for a lethal dose of reality. With budget cuts looming everywhere, who will be left to challenge the accuracy of sworn statements? Certainly, this will not be a top priority of liberal democrats who stands to be the largest beneficiary.
