Walmarts: The Heat is on!

A lunatic really has it in for Walmarts. There were eleven bomb threats made over the weekend against nine Walmart store in Missouri and three against Walmart stores in Kansas. Calls were made to each of the stores and the message was always the same, “There's a bomb in the building. You have two hours to get everybody out this store. This is not a joke.” There were no bombs found in any of the stores, but it was still no joke. Fortunately, no one was injured during the mass evacuations.

The police know the origin of the telephone calls.

In Fredricktown, Missouri, Police Chief Eric Hovis told reporters from ABC Channel 17 News, “We have the telephone number that came in. We are actively pursuing and investigating that number at this time. I do believe all of these are connected.” The call are believed to have been Robo-Calls because they sounded recorded.

Retired FBI Profilers believes that all the calls are connected.

Former FBI profiler Brad Garrett told ABC News reporters that the incidents have prompted police to look for possible connections. Garrett told the reporters, “Obviously the caller has got some issue with Walmart. They got fired perhaps … they had some issue with Walmart in the present or the past.” Walmarts definitely has been in the soup with past employees over wrongful firing, sexual harassment, discrimination, and other civil actions over the years.

Were the bomb threats just empty threats?

After the Aurora, Colorado tragedy, the whole country is on the alert, but Garrett seems to feel that the nut behind these bomb threats is all bark and no bite. Brad Garrett told ABC that “I don't think people should be worried about shopping at Walmart. I think people should understand that the law enforcement takes bomb threats seriously, and they cost communities a lot of money. But yes, law enforcement is a little bit on edge obviously because of what happened in Aurora.”

Is Walmart at fault in any way?

Perhaps! But if this is a disgruntled employee, past or present, he or she is going about this in the wrong way. Your beef is with Walmart management, not with the innocent men, women, and children shopping in the stores. You are putting innocent men, women, and children in harms way even if there is no explosive device planted in the stores. Hysteria and panic sets in and people can be trampled to death as they rush pell-mell to get out of the stores. Perhaps Walmart has wronged you in some way and that issue needs to be addressed and remedied, but the hundreds and thousands of shoppers whose lives you are endangering were not responsible. Whoever you are, you need to rethink this plan of action while there is still time.

You are so right Jerry. Even though you feel your rights (in one way or another) have been violated, you 'do not' have the right to infringe on others. Thank you for sharing.:)

My guess is also a former employee, one that has probably been fired, not able to find a new job, and now has nothing better to do than fester in their anger.

Yes Mark, everything seems to point to a disgruntled employee.

Whoever behind this crazy act is just taking it out on the innocent people ultimately. There is better recourse. Thanks for the share, Jerry - siva

My husband works in maintenance at Walmart and he hears a lot about management treating employees unfairly! They also do a lot of firing!! I pray for my husband's safety each and every day! Now that I know about these bomb threats I will add the shoppers to my prayer list. Thank you for this very informative and well written article!!
