The global unemployment crisis has kept the world poised on the brink of disaster

What Holiday Cheer

As another winter fast approaches where chestnuts should be roasting in an open fire but, for many an open fire are the flames coming from countless trash cans where homeless multitudes gather around just to keep warm. For far too many it is the harshness of winter that brings little joy. Homelessness, hunger and woe the numbers continue to grow. No pity or compassion we see today. It is as though the kindness of man has gone astray. There maybe bright spots around today but for most in so much disarray there is little consolation to make their day.

In traveling the country I have found that it is always around this time of year when businesses continue to act like Ebenezer Scrooge. Corporate profits are all that matter. For millions of Bob Cratchit's who humbly still toil away there is little comfort to be had this day. There are some who recall a simpler time to be had by all. The holiday season brought goodness and cheer. This is when families came together and many kitchens filled the air tantalizing the palate with aromas so dear. Those years are just distant memories now.

The passage of time has not been kind. A world that is so different more sinister in tone. Financial hardships have circled the globe. In the United States where economic troubles abound we should take notice many others fair far worse. In the city of Lucknow, a large metropolitan hub, located in northern India recently announced over 350 job vacancies. As soon as they were posted a deluge of applicants came pouring in. Over 2.5 million we were told. This is just one of thousands of similar instances across the globe where unemployment numbers have only continued to grow. This global crisis keeps the world on edge.

Now, with all things considered the jubilation that coincides with a coming holiday season has actually been pushed aside. The uprooting of societies today continues the tempest of torment we are witnessing today. There are those who believe things will change. Maybe we still have to go through more difficult times ahead before the light of hope breaks through the dark clouds of despair. But, that's not to say the hardships we continue to see today will all be blown away. When there is so much inequality in the world, where impoverished multitudes keep multiplying everyday has tipped the scales for more troubles ahead. And, unless we can find a balance today the world that we know will soon further decay.

How much longer will the darkness stay before peace and understanding come into play? That is pretty hard to say. But one thing is certain things never stay the same. The right kind of change will only come when there is a global resolve by all involved working together in reaching an amicable arrangement that stimulates economic growth and sustainability. Starting in the United states is a good place to consider. We are so close to turning things around. The will of the people have to be heard and not silenced by the greed of corporate indifference that has made such a mess. To right the wrongs of so much distress. As Hubert Hoover once said " At a time when we can make ends meet somebody has always moved the ends" is typical of the way too many live.

Still so fortunate though the United States has the means to turn the page on to a new beginning so maybe by this time next year the joyous celebration will bring good cheer. Fulfilling the Williams Theory of Economic Evolution is paramount of importance to realize that mankind can actually have peace on earth bringing good will toward all.

Thank you for sharing your article. I found it very interesting and there are some really good points to ponder. I do love the holidays but it can be hard for a lot of people. Sometimes it's a time of survival because of lack of jobs, money or possibly bad health. It can also be from loneliness. I think back on the depression and all that I've read. I believe that people had to work together to survive. Blessings to you today and always.
