A brief note about civil service examination in India.

UPSC stands for Union Public Service Commission is the authority to conduct civil service examination in India. Further UPSC recruits candidates for many different posts other than civil service. Indian civil service examination is one of the greatest examination having high stiff competition in the world. This examination own the heritage of more than 125 years, from the colonial period of India. UPSC conducts civil service examination once in every year. Generally 4 to 5 lacks of candidates are attending the exam and only below 1000 candidates are recruited for different posts.

The major attractive thing about UPSC civil service examination is they are offering various posts to serve the society having more power and freedom to those who are very much active. Actually the rule of administration of India vested with top level posts, getting of civil service is the ultimate goal of millions.

Qualification, mode of examination of UPSC civil service

UPSC offer beautiful post like India Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Revenue Service (IRS), Indian Forest Service(IFS), Indian Information Service etc. Totally UPSC offer more than 20 services per one attent of the examination. Since India is a united nation with in disparities like rich and poor, UPSC reserved a major portion of vacancies to those who are from backward communities.

The minimum qualification for attending the civil service examination is the candidate should complete under graduate or bleacher degree in any discipline and complete 21 year old.

Mainly there are three steps to overtake to be a civil servant. They are

1 – preliminary test
2 – main test
3 – personality test

Preliminary test conducts in different parts of the country. All the questions in preliminary test will be in objective or multiple choice in nature.

When a candidate passed preliminary examination the next stage is main test. Actually it is a written test. And having to face more different subjects. The main test contain precis writing, essay writing, comprehension questions base on a given paragraph etc. This is also conducts different parts of the country.

Final stage is, once the candidate pass main examination he have to face personality test or interview. It is conducts only at New Delhi. A team of interview board evaluate the personality of the candidate.

Once a candidate successfully complete these three stages he can be a civil servant. The various posts are allocated according to the rank list.
