It seems now that even a crisis that comes about gets reported differently in the news. We do not join together as a nation anymore. The question of which news do you watch or believe needs to be answered with American unity.

Which News Do You Watch or Believe?

The United States has become divided like never before, and the news media is participating in this new shaping of our nation. It is good that we have freedom to express our views. However, this freedom may be tearing our nation apart from within like never before. The question of what we watch or believe can be answered in many ways.

The Propaganda Theory

While growing up and attending school in the 1960’s, we studied about Communism and feared it. Our news came from three television networks and local newspapers that pretty much reported the same things. We heard in school and in the news how the Communists distributed propaganda to citizens. This was evil stuff that promoted government control and bias.

As an adult I recently visited China, and saw propaganda for real. All over the city of Beijing are posters that tell how great the government is. Freedoms such as property ownership and fancy cars are seen, yet opinions that are negative about the government are not in public view. This Communist country displays most signs in English. A military presence is visible most everywhere.

Freedom of The Media

The media is way different in America than in the past. Three television networks are referred to as the mainstream media now. Americans listen to the news they choose. Our news seems to be split by political views, with different reports given by the opinion of the source.

Freedom to report news has been expanded to citizens. Many stations encourage cell phone pictures or videos as part of the reporting. The internet has even made it possible for anyone to show their own videos to be passed on in minutes. Americans choose what they want to see.

The American Problem

It is good that we have freedom to see all sides of a story in America. However, our nation is no longer unified as it was in the past. We seem to be a country made up of Democrats and Republicans instead of Americans. When 9/11 came to New York our country backed the President in his decisions for a brief period. We came together as a nation.

Good article.
Actually American Liberal Media has done a tremendous job of spreading its tentacles everywhere. Unfortunately, Americans and non-Americans are led to see everything through MSM's eyes. Thank God, Internet has broken this tenacious hold forever.
