Why Do We Go Through Hell Following Our Teams?

It Can Be Emotionally Draining Following Your Local Team. Here's Why..

Carlisle United - Promise Much, Deliver Little

Oh dear! What can I say about this team that hasn't already been said?

Quite a lot, actually and not all of it is favourable.

Yes, my friends, yesterday it was time to watch our local football (soccer) team play against Dagenham and Redbridge in League One of the English Divisions, of which there are 4. The Premiership at the top, the Championship, League One (that Carlisle are in) plus League Two. Below that are many non-league divisions too many to mention here.

Carlisle United are an "up and down" side. They are capable of great things, like beating "big" teams like Southampton and Leeds (the latter have been promoted into the Championship) but pit us against so-called easier opposition and we fail miserably.

Dagenham and Redbridge are in the bottom 3 in League One so are in danger of being relegated into League Two if they don't start winning matches. When my husband told me where they were in League One I said, "Oh, dear!" as I KNEW they would beat Carlisle..and they did, at our ground winning 2-0!

What can I say? At the time I swore profusely, something I don't normally do at football matches. Our team didn't try which is the reason why I was so frustrated. No invention, no desire and no passion to win the game, whereas Dagenham and Redbridge relished the challenge as, well, what have they got to lose? They went for it and it paid off, handsomely.

I am glad I won't be here over Christmas as I would have to be dragged kicking and screaming to watch our next home game against Exeter. Do I think we will win?

NOPE!

So funny Janey! Loved it! I feel your pain, I really do.
My hubby will not watch a Atlanta Falcon games, because both times we have lost. He is banned from the TV!
We are 10 and 2. We have a chance. I know I just jinxed them, geesh!lol
My baseball team, the Atlanta Braves have gotten close, always ending up choking. Since the early 90's.LOL
Thank you for sharing.:)

Thank you! Ar the Atlanta Falcons an American Football team? I used to follow American Football religiously in the 80s (my team were the LA Raiders that I don't think exist anymore)? If it's not an American Football team I now feel very, very stupid. Haha! :-0

The falcons are, yes! My brother just informed me that the raiders are now the Oakland Raiders.
From the state of California.
Heck,I gave up on really watching football some 11 years ago.
When we finally made it to the championship game and we were just awful.
The only thing I think of usually during football season is, what will I be serving at the championship (Superbowl) party we will have. For family and friends.
Now with baseball and my Atlanta Braves, I think this season coming up in the spring, we will take it all.
We just got a lot of rookies on the team about 2 years ago, they will be just ripe by next year.
I think this year is our year. I say that every year though.LOL
I feel the same way about y'all with your football leagues and cricket but, I love to hear y'all talk about it.
We yanks can relate, in a different sort of a way. It's funny calling myself a yank, being from the deep south. Where a yankee is a northerner. :)

Well, we're a bit ignorant of the term "Yank" over here as we seem to think ALL Americans are Yanks! Anyway, you're all lovely so there lol. Oakland Raiders, that's it..knew they'd changed their name but I'd forgotten what to. By the way, we call Baseball "Glorified Rounders" here but I'd love to go to a game..all that excitement, I bet it's great!

I suppose all teams in the Premiership are having a topsy-turvy season. Blackpool (where I'm from) are a case in point. They just HAVE to keep winning, otherwise they'll go down, so to beat Stoke the other day was an added bonus for Ollie! Me and hubby like Liverpool by the way, especially Steven Gerrard who I call "God" because he's sooo ace! :-)
