Why is Obama Indicting Whistleblowers?

Instead of treating whistleblowers as the courageous, heroic people they are, the Obama administration considers them criminals.

Turning whistleblowers into criminals

Thomas Drake, after exposing massive waste and criminal fraud at the National Security Agency, was not rewarded for his efforts. He was arrested and charged under the National Espionage Act. Fortunately, the Department of Justice case against Drake fell apart just before his scheduled trial last summer, and he is free. Others have not been as fortunate.

On April 2, 2012, the government charged John Kiriakou under the espionage act for the alleged mishandling of classified information. Their Problem with Kiriakou? He exposed CIA torture as official policy. Kiriakou headed the counterterrorism operations in Pakistan after 9/11 and organized the team that captured Abu Zubaydah, a highly placed al-Qaeda operative. He gave an on-camera interview to ABC News in 2007 during which he revealed the CIA's use of torture as official policy, not just the actions of a few rogue agents.

This is the sixth individual who has been charged by the Obama administration, more than all past administrations combined.

Jesselyn Radack, from the Government Accountability Project, representing Kiriakou, says it "is outrageous that John Kiriakou - the whistleblower - is the only individual to be prosecuted in relation to the Bush administration's torture program. The interrogators who tortured prisoners, the officials who gave the orders, the attorneys who authored the torture memos, and the CIA agents who destroyed the interrogation have not been held professionally accountable, much less charged with crimes. But John Kiriakou is facing decades in prison for helping expose torture....if you torture a prisoner, you will not be held criminally liable, but if you blow the whistle on torture, you risk criminal prosecution under the Espionage Act."

My first page moderated and a pleasure to read. We do need to have confidence in the whistle-blower system and not action against those who focus on problems.

When a man kicks his dog for barking when it sees something strange which it ought to do, then you know, it's not the dog but the man who has lost his sense of direction. Obama has lost his vision. Does he even remember why he was given the Nobel Peace Prize?

On another front; big ups Steve! It's nice to see that you're a moderator now. You deserve it. God bless.

Dear Steve, everything does not go up to the president. I have worked in espionage set ups and also with counter terrorism units. I have many US servicemen as friends. Sometimes decisions are taken at lower levels only. I think I will write a detailed expose some day. Sometimes I wonder whats hapenning in America. The war against Islamic terrorism cannot be won by kid gloves. I am sorry if I am the odd man out

First of all we the people need to realize that #1 Obama inherited this problem from the Bush administration. #2 The war on terror is a farce, now I know that makes me sound really silly but please note. To date there has been no true investigation of 911, there has been plenty of evidence to suggest that the government's tale of 911 is a bad fairy tale to state the least. #3 It would not be the first time our government has lied to the people. #4 check out a film titled National Security Alert on topdocumentaryfilms.com. They just do not allege that a plane did not hit the pentagon they prove it beyond doubt. #5 So if the government can lie about the pentagon what else about 911 is not true? #6 I am not saying terrorist do not exist but I do not believe 19 terrorist could outsmart Norad and manage to fly into protected airspace undetected for 90 minutes when before NORAD was able to respond in less than 9 minutes. I do believe that the american public was shocked by the events of 911 and I believe it is time we demand answers and accountability before we loose our nation.

Hello Steve, I am not shocked by any of this stuff and was exposed to "dirty tactics" as a young member of military intel many years ago.

It seems to be just the everyday order of things in government - reward incompetence and fraud, and punish honesty. Thanks Andre.

Steve: Where are we going now? I know we must speak our minds but I hate to hear negative reports on Obama. How cunning and clever can lies be, although there must be strong evidence for you to report it. However, if Obama loses, what then............

It doesn't matter if he loses. He acts the same as Republicans. Just yesterday his administration issued a proposed ruile that disregards the effect of greenhouse gases on polar bear habitat. The Bush administration had issued a rule saying a rule protecting the habitat of polar bears from emissions could be disregarded if the pollution originated "outside of the bears' habnitat." That rule was struck down by a court two years ago. The Obama administration then found an appeals judge to overrule that ruling. Obama or Romney - Tweedledum and Tweedledee.

I think we have to believe it's all part of the cosmic plan, or something like that.
