Reasons why you should wear your seat belt

When a car hits an object with great force it comes to a sudden stop whereas your body is still in motion. When this happens you will most likely be thrown off your seat and flung forwards ramming into the front seat, dashboard or the wind shield of your car.

The seat belt protects you from being flung out through the windshield on a sudden impact. It is a life saver that will protect you from critical injuries. Your chances of surviving an accident is higher when you wear the seat belt.

Seat belts can expand and contract. You can lean forward easily with the seat belt on. In case of an accident the seat belt contracts and tightens up securing you safely to your seat.

How to wear your seat belt?

Check to see if the seat belt is not twisted when you are wearing it. The twisted belt can cut into your body in the case of an accident.

The sash belt should go across your shoulders and should not go under the armpit or behind the arm. The belt should not sag.

The lap belt should be go across your hips and must be a snug fit.

Make sure that the seat belt is not very close to your neck to avoid the seat belt cutting through in case of an accident.

Make sure children are wearing seat belts

Make sure children always wear their seat belts and take extra care that it is secured the right way. There are child seats available for children to secure them safely in place with the seat belt.

Use baby seats to strap your baby safely in place. Select the correct baby seat or child seat according to age and size and mount it properly in the car. Double check to see if the seats are securely in place. Children should never ride on the lap of a passenger or share seat belts.

Remember to change the seat belt if it is very lose or worn out. A worn out seat belt is of no use and it as good as not wearing a seat belt.

Wearing your seat belt will help to save your life. Always wear your seat belt.

Useful share and tips, Vellur. Many take this for granted and go through the motions but this should come naturally like closing the door of a car - siva
