Former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree who did not have his contract renewed at the end of the 2014 football season has signed a one year contract with the Oakland Raiders who need a veteran wide receiver on their team for 2015.

Oakland Raiders sign free agent wide receiver Michael Crabtree to a one year deal

Former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree, 27, who played six seasons with the 49ers before he became an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2014 football season has been signed by the Oakland Raiders to a one year, $3 million dollar with incentives that could make his full salary up to $5 million.
Crabtree played his college football at Texas Tech University for two years before he became the first round draft choice of the San Francisco 49ers in the 2009 National Football League Draft.
During the 49ers offseason training activities in 2013 Crabtree suffered a tear in his Achilles tendon that affected his play on the gridiron for the next two seasons.
The 49ers wanted Crabtree to return to the team at the end of the 2014 football season when he became an unrestricted free agent with a reduction of his salary.
Only the Miami Dolphins, Baltimore Ravens and the Oakland Raiders were interested in hiring Crabtree to join their team in 2015.
Crabtree could have signed a free agent contract with the Miami Dolphins when he visited them on April 5 2015 but Crabtree wanted a salary of $4.5 million but the Dolphins were only willing to pay him $3 million.
The Raiders are in need for a wide receiver to join their team during the 2015 football season. The Raiders were not able to get Green Bay Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb who decided to re-sign a contract to remain with the Packers last month.
The Raiders also wanted to sign free agent wide receiver Jeremy Maclin who signed a contract with the Kansas City Chiefs on March 11, 2015.
Crabtree will have one season with the Raiders to prove that a change of teams will revive his career in the National Football League in 2015 since he will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the next football season unless the Raiders decide to renew his contract before the start of free agency in March 2016.
The Raiders organization is known for picking up football players that have been released by their former teams and helping them turn their careers around with their team.
